Starting weight 320, smallest weight 140lbs, now I'm 196. I had a child 3 years ago and ever since I've found that I am able to eat more. My pouch holds more. i had the roux n y. Is it possible I may need a revision?
Thanks. I wasn't sure. I guess my body has definitely adapted to the surgery, because i don't get sick as often and I know I can eat at least 1/2 cup of food in one sitting, nothing at all like the 1-2 TBSP that I could only bare for the first year. I guess its stretched some.
Hi Nikki,
Thought I would pass along something I saw on the weekday show "The Drs", where a woman who had RNY and her pouch had stretched out, was able to get a procedure done with a device that made kind of like gathered pleats inside her pouch that reduced the size of it. They showed an animated video where the device was put down through the esophogus and into the stomach pouch (patient is obviously asleep during the procedure) and then it used these tab-like things to gather up sections of the inside of the pouch and "tack" them together. The function of the tab-like things sort of reminded me of those plastic tabs that are used to attach price/info tags onto clothing . Kind of like a capital "H". I know there is a website for "The Drs." and you can search for topics on old shows. Technically, I think it is a NBC show, but is syndicated and is shown on any station that wants to pay for it.
You might also check out the website: http://www.5daypouchtest.com./. I think it's affiliated with "Living after WLS". Anyway, that's a couple things I'm aware of that may be options for you as an RNY patient. Good luck and I hope you can find something that might work for you.
Kathy, thanks for the referring me to the site. It had a lot of positive results and I especially like the fact that I wouldn't have any additional scars and able to go back to work quickly, its just the price that stands as a big con to me $9500+. I've decided to do the 5 day test that Lila mentioned instead, I'll also consult a gastroenterologist about having an upper endoscopy done to confirm or deny if the pouch has indeed stretched. I'm on day one of my liquid diet. The Eas AdvantEdge tasted better than I remember. I can do this.

Nikki Maybe you dont need a revision. Google the 5 day pouch test and try that. Maybe you just need a revert - back to the basics kind of thing. I have read a lot of people had great success with this 5-day pouch method at Obesity.com GOOD LUCK!!
Cut and paste from Google below:
<<Does my pouch still work?
Have I broken my pouch?
Have I ruined my tool?
These are questions many weight loss surgery post-ops find themselves asking occasionally during their journey. Perhaps it feels like we can eat more food or we know that we are eating more food. Sometimes these questions are asked when there has been a weight regain.
This is the 5-day plan that I have developed and used to determine if my pouch is working and return to that tight newbie feeling. And a bonus to this plan, it helps one get back to the basics of the weight loss surgery diet and it triggers weight loss. Also, it is not difficult to follow and if you are in a stage of carb-cycling it will break this pattern. Sounds pretty good, right?>> Delete Comment
PS you dont have to pay for the info if you decide to try it. Google has it for free if you look
