Darlene, enjoyed your post. You described it all so well. I am enjoying the nice comments from people and wonder why I didn't make the effort sooner to do the MGB. But I am happy now and know it was the right thing to do. My adult children say I am…

Great post Darlene, thanks for sharing with us. You are right, many of us have had similar feelings and all of us have been on the roller coaster ride of yo-yo dieting. The MGB surgery has been a lifesaver for me and I would do it again in a heartbe…

First Name:
Darlene
About Me:
I am 62 years old and have a wonderful husband, four kids (3 boys and 1 girl), five grandchildren (2 boys and 3 girls). My family means a lot to me. They are a big reason why I want to have the MGB. I want to spend all the years that God has planned for me with them (i don't want to cut it short because of my weight and issues that brings).

I've been dieting all my life - well at least since the 7th grade. I wasn't heavy as a child (in fact, I wasn't heavy in the 7th grade when I started dieting). It seems so innocent, but it is like a spider web - once I got into it I couldn't get out. Over the years of dieting, binging on carbs, and exercising to keep the weight off - I've really messed up my metabolism. In the past I would go for hours and hours without eating and then binge. (Fun thing about that is that is the way they train Sumo Wrestlers to gain weight). Well it worked with me. Right now I'm 234 - not the heaviest I've ever been (242), but too much for my 5' 2 1/2" frame.

My daughter had this surgery about 11 months ago and looks and feels fantastic. She helped me believe that maybe this could be for me too. The more I've watched the videos and read your blogs I'm convinced that I can do this. I work hard to eat food that are good for me - although I still have a craving for "sweets".....I'm hoping that the surgery helps with that. I know I won't have the room to pack in as much as I can now which will help, but I hope that the cravings might change. If they don't, I am still going to work at eating well and keeping myself healthy for all the years I want with my kids, grandkids and my husband.

On the other side

HI all.....surgery went well. Dr. R took a little over 6 feet.....my surgery went long (55 min) becasue of the reconstructive surgery I had for my breast cancer. He said it was like working in a closet instead of the garage.

I didn't have to take many pain meds - only when i first got back to the room. I had a little "yuck" when i ate two bites of noodles in the hospital's chicken noodle soup. It was that baseball think in the chest. I really don't want feeling anytime soon, so I'm sticking to… Continue

Just days before surgery

Hi All..........well the surgery date is getting close. My husband and I are leaving for Las Vegas monday night and I'm scheduled for surgery Wednesday 8/5...........This is very exciting!!

The last few months since I decided to get surgery has been very interesting. I've explained before that I have not always been heavy. In fact, about 12 years ago I was leading a "weight loss" program that was sucessful for me (defined by the fact that I had lost weight and was seemingly keeping it off). Eve… Continue

My notebook is finally complete!!!!!

Hey all........when i'm excited......i picked up the last of the stuff that I need for my notebook yesterday and it goes in the mail Monday.....

My surgery is scheduled for August 5th in Nevada and i'm counting down the days. The notebook was a bitch as everyone says, but really by the end of the process I'm happy for it becuase i really can tell someone what this is all about. Seems like I've read and reread the manual about 100 times and still I know that this journey for me will be unique.… Continue

I have called myself "an easy feeder" for a long time ......... I used to have two horses when I lived on some property.....both geldings......both registered Morgan's......one was an easy feeder and the other was not........I really had to watch what I feed Ebone.........h… Continue

Hi Darlene. I read about your surgery on the blog page. I'm gathering in contacts and am curious about your reactions. I have a friend who was happy at first but later was dissatisfied. Are you losing weight like you had hoped? Would you e-mail me for a contact? I would need dates and before and after weights. Thanks, Wendy

You are on the other side now. Your big adventure begins. Hope that all went smoothly and that you are feeling good. I was fatigued at first but it got better with time and has now gone away. I am now two months past and doing well. I still haven't quite got the hang of portions. My brains idea and my new stomach's idea are very different. Also I am never physically hungry but I do get mental cravings. For the first time I can differentiate.

Hi Darlene,

Congratulations!! I could be a contact in a pinch but I too am only a few weeks out. I got all of my contacts off of WWW.mgbhelp.com . That site was a find. Good luck and let me know if you come up short on contacts.

Hi Darlene,
I would be happy to be a contact for you, just keep in mind I'm only 2 weeks out from surgery so I really don't have alot to report on the recovery process. Let me know and if you want I'll email you in the next few days.
