That wonderful to hear and I can't wait to start working on the package. I am to see if there is anyway to push the insurance, maybe change to a PPO instead of HMO.

Deb, actually, I was feeling so good after being in the hotel for one day that I went shopping and sight-seeing. On Saturday (3 days post-op) I went to a social event that CLOS was sponsoring- the screening for Super Hero Makeover. I felt so good! As if surgery never happened. Actually, Dr. R said that is a very common response. There are a few who have a rough time recovering, but for the most part, people feel like I did. A little more tired than usual, but generally healthy and energetic. So going home after 8 days was no problem. My incisions were even almost healed over. NO PROBLEM!

Deb, I flew in Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning I had clinic and Met Dr. R and all the staff. Wednesday evening I had surgery. I was discharged from the hospital on Thursday afternoon. I was discharged from Dr. R's care on Tuesday morning. I flew home Tuesday evening. So I was in Vegas for 8 nights. Have you talked to Dr. R about financing options through CLOS? I heard they are beginning to finance people now. Also, many insurance companies are beginning to recognize MGB as a covered proceedure. What does your insurance require? Just curious.

Hi Deb! I was just checking on all my friends, and saw your reply to my post on your site here. Just a tip... if you want to be sure a friend reads your question to them, put the reply on THEIR page also.
Anyway, I am not at all sorry I had surgery. There have been moments that I wondered what I had done and why, though. Let me explain...
After surgery, I woke up to the recovery room nurse holding smelling salts under my nose and encouraging me to wake up. I was combative with her I think. But there was not one moment of pain. I had 3 doses of the morphine pump, mostly because I was so worried about waking up to pain like I had after my C-section years before. And the MOTHER OF ALL PAIN MEDS was the dilotted they gave me a few hours before discharge. OH MERCY! That is good stuff. I could feel it enter my blood stream, with a very warm sleepy feeling. I slept HARD for 2 hours and woke up refreshed and ready to be discharged. The nurses were heaven-sent. My nurse had the MGB 6 months before, and was so helpful and supportive. I went back to my hotel and had a great recovery period. Surgery was on Wednesday, and I attended the screening of Super Hero Makeover with Gil Gerard on Saturday. I had energy, and walked all over the place. Sunday through Tuesday was spent sight-seeing and going to the final clinic Tuesday morning where I was released from Dr. R's care. The trip home was fine- uneventful. It wasn't until I was at home in my own environment that I started wondering what had I gotten myself into. I grew very tired of chicken broth and Gatorade quickly. Stage one is not easy to stick with when your family eats as they always have. So I started adding stage 2 foods to my diet after 3 weeks. MISTAKE!!! I had nausea, dizziness, vomiting, heartburn, and pure HELL! I was miserable! I was sure that either I had made a mistake, or Dr. R had. I called him with my symptoms, and he tripled my Prilosec for a week. That lessened the heartburn problems. But I went back to stage 1 foods for another week and slowly added stage 2 foods. Finally I stopped having problems with the foods, so I was able to slowly try stage 3 foods. By 2 1/2 months, I was eating what I wanted, without concern as to what stage the food was from. Occasionally, I eat something that disagrees with me- something too greasy usually. For instance- my anniversary- March 9th- we went to our favorite restaurant. It is a Japanese grill. I ate some scallops with lemon sauce and was so TERRIBLY ILL, I wanted to DIE! It took 2 days staying close to the bathroom- in a hotel room- before I finally felt human again. Then at the end of the 2nd day, we were on our way home, and I had an "accident" of agent orange in a department store. HUMILIATING!
So I am much more careful what I eat and when. I know where bathrooms are when I'm queasy. And I DO NOT wait to use the bathroom. I go RIGHT AWAY!
NOWWWWWWWWWW....... all things said and being 4 months out, I am so happy I had the MGB! Today I weighed myself, and I am at 250 pounds. That is 72 pounds gone forever, taking me from a size 26-28 to a size 20-22. And I am learning to say THANK YOU when people notice- and they ALWAYS notice.
I whole-heartedly encourage you to keep going on your packet, and to do all the research you need to make your decision. It only takes a half an hour, but it is a lifelong choice. You will be so happy you did the research- especially when people start to see your progress and ask you all the questions. You will be armed with all the information you need to answer their questions.

Hi Star,
Could you tell me if there were any times you wish you had not done the MGB? What was it like when you woke up after surgery? What are bad days like? I want to go into this with my eyes wide open. I do not know anyone who has had the MGB, but it just seems more reasonable and safer to me. Any input is appreciated and negative items will not prevent me from doint it, I just want to know what issues people have. I have questionned a lot of people that have had RNY, and I am not crazy about what I was hearing, although no deaths, I have heard of major problems and having to have things repaired.

Accepting Compliments is easy, practice "Thank you" even when its difficult and take time to think about it and enjoy them. Great news to hear 70 lbs. keep going, what kind of exercise are you doing?

Hi Deb. I'm Starr. I had my MGB 4 months ago with Dr.R in Vegas. In 4 months I've lost 70 lbs forever, and gone from a size 26/28 to a size 20/22 so far. Not every day is great, but I am immensely healthier, happier, and smaller! Everyone notices now, and I am learning to TRY to accept compliments. I wish you all the best. Hang in there.

About Me:
Wanting to have Dr. R do my surgery
Struggling with insurance paying 100% of RNY or I pay for MGB with Dr. R. In the end I want what is best for me health wise. I would be happy for any advise. I know many people who have had the RNY, and most had problems later if not right away. That scares me, however I don't see much on this except for clos.net
