Trish, my weightloss has slowed considerably too. I applaud your exercise efforts. I haven't really pushed myself to begin yet. Exercise is an eight letter word that is just a "double four letter" word to me. I hate it and although I know I will n...

Hi, Thanks for the comments. I think your doing great. Not everyone is the same and I didn't even lose anything this past week. I know what you are saying about the hair. I have the same thing going on. It started about the 4th month. Stay positiv...

Rainy, I know exactly how you feel. I started my weight closer to 400 than to 300 myself. It was great to see the 200s. My weight loss is slow and I am a bit jealous to hear you have already lost almost 100 lbs in 5 months. Carmen reminds me all t...

Debbie
About Me:
I've always felt that the person inside me was more important than the person people see upon meeting me. I walk into rooms feeling that everyone must be staring at me, not because I am fat, but because I well-rounded. Being overweight was generally a minor inconvenience until recently, and as I heal from the surgery, I think back on all my years of dieting and rebound weight gain with a certain sense of peace. This is how I lived my life and now I can add a new chapter filled with motion and wonder.

My surgery was Sept 18, 2008. My weight was 372 lbs at start. Everything went well and I got the silver star for the biggest liver Dr. P had ever seen. I know that this surgery saved my life. I am five weeks out and 24 lbs lighter right now and am looking forward to my future. Seven weeks out and 30 lbs lighter! Eight weeks out and 32 lbs lighter.

5 months, 1 week update

Hey Everyone!

I'm down 77 lbs now. I was looking forward to getting out of the 300s to the 200s. Now that the scale says 299, I am not as excited as I thought I would be. It's only a pound difference between 300 and 299, and seems like an eternity away from 199. I can't seem to enjoy the progress I've made because I am focused on the road ahead. Right now, it seems long.

I got the results back from my blood work. My iron is low and I have to take B-12 vitamin supplements. Otherwise, my vitamin… Continue

3 month update

I know I haven't been online much. I add my two cents every now and again, and I read the blog posts almost daily to keep tabs on all of you. I went to have blood drawn for my 3 month check-up, per my PCP. He has other gastric bypass patients (not MGB) who waited until they were sick from vitamin deficiencies to come see him. He wants to keep an eye on my levels more often than Dr. P needs to see them just to be on the safe side. I go back on Monday after Christmas to get my results. I'll keep y… Continue

Multi grain bread is EVIL!

Ok, so last night I got home from work and was hungry. I took about 2 oz of chicken and a slice of multigrain bread to eat. I ate slowly. Chewed my food well. I ate the chicken and the one slice of bread. The bread went down alright, but about 20 minutes later, I was in such pain, I thought I was dying. I ended up having to vomit, not once, not twice, but 5 times over the next 2 hours and only felt better after 3 hours. I don't know if the bread just sat in my stomach like lead weight, but it fe… Continue

Six weeks out!

It's been six weeks since I had my surgery. My weight is down 30 lbs. In all my life, I have never lost weight this quickly or easily. I am thrilled. I know Dr. P says this is a tool, but it has been like giving Braille to the blind for me. I am not cranky. I am not bitchy. I am not hungry. The vitamins have made my nails grown and harden. I haven't polished them in such a long time, and I actually took the time to do it last night. I started taking the citrucel chews in caramel and chocolate li… Continue

Two weeks out! Stage 2

Ok, so I'm now on to stage 2. I had some mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, and cottage cheese to try. I find that the scrambled eggs and cottage cheese are really hard in my stomach, and the mashed potatoes seem like nothing. Any ideas about why that might be? Ben says that he finds that protein seems harder on the stomach. At least it feels like a lead weight in there. Also, I am wondering if I will know if I tear my new stomach with the new foods? I chew everything really well, but some foods f… Continue

Hello Debbie, Just stopping to say I fit in a pair of 16's yesterday. I have been weighing around 195 lately. Yes I have lost a bit more being over 2 yrs out. I told Ben on the board that if ya'll were a bit closer I would try to get over to hug ya'lls necks. I am gonna try to meet up with Sonya next friday but, she doesn't know it yet. I have been wanting to meet her for a while. One day our paths will cross and we will be so thin we won't recognize each other. Carol Ware

Hello,

This is very exciting, and a little emotional knowing that I will have my life back soon (at least I hope). I am a Registered Nurse in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit. I have been obese most of my life (almost 38 years old) and I want to live again...learn how to surf, get my dive license, get my pilots license. I have such an adventurous spirit that it almost kills me knowing how my weight controls my life and ambitions currently. I am ready for this MGB journey and have read posts for countless hours, watched you tube testimonials all with the excitement knowing this may be me one day. Please, if you have the time to respond to my questions, and allow me add you to my contact list, I greatly appreciate it. I understand Dr. Rutledge is the greatest, however, I live on the East Coast (VA) and would probably rather go to Florida because my 8 year old daughter will be traveling with me and she could visit Disney World for the first time. My questions are as follows:

1. Which surgeon did you have?
2. How was your overall experience with this process?
3. How was your overall experience with the staff?
4. How soon did you get your date once the packet was submitted?
5. Was your primary care provider supportive with your decision? If not, did you have an difficulty with the referral?
6. Did you have much post-operative pain? If so, what relieved it?
7. Did you feel any of the hunger you experienced prior to surgery?
8. Did you feel a loss for food?
9. Did you experience depression? Did you have a history of depression prior to surgery?
10. How soon did you go back to work? Did your work require physical activity (pulling/pushing)?
11. Would you choose to have this procedure again? If not, why?
12. What suggestions or tips could you offer for those who will travel out of state?
13. Which hotels would you suggest?
14. Is there anything else you would like to add or comment on?

Sincerely,

Julie Bangs

Deb, I am on Day 1 of the 5 day Pouch Test. Liquids only sucks but I can do it for 2 days. It has made me realize that I have not been drinking enough water or getting enough protein!
Tell Ben to give it a try!

Happy 7 month anniversary Deb! You are doing AWESOME!!!! Someone suggested this website to Kelty-Lee to help with her stall. Tell Ben to go on it and see if it can get him moving again!

Yeah, it's easy to get hung up on the number. Personally, I just need to get exercising. All this flappy stuff is only gonna get worse if I don't. UGH, why is exercising so unappealing?

Actually, it's been 55 lbs in 12 weeks. Which of course is good, but I have slowed down a little too. Try not to get discouraged. You are doing great! 77 lbs in five months is still wonderful. Could you have done that on your own? I couldn't have.
Have you been measuring yourself? When my weight loss isn't what I want it to be, i whip out the tape measure and feel better with the inches I have lost. Hang in there, the weight will come off and every day you look like a thinner, more fabulous version of Deb!

Hi Deb. How are you? I love the new pictures and can definitely see the difference. You are making good progress. Did you start the exercise program yet? I really need to. These flappy arms are going to be a problem come summer!
