Hi Chris, I think 45 lbs in 2 months is wonderful. What is deal with drinking coffee? Is it because it has too much acid in it? I was wondering if you could still get the boost from tea....

My Surgery is next Wednesday, 3/11

I just wanted to let y'all know that I am scheduled for surgery next Wednesday with Dr. Rutledge in Henderson. Also wanted to thank all of you who sent me your contact letters for my packet. The contact letters and the blogs have really helped me to be better educated and comfortable that I have made the right decision to have this surgery.

Talk about waiting until the last minute to be for sure I am going to have this surgery....my last Dr. appointment was yesterday with my Cardiologist. I was… Continue

Donna, Dont stress over only eating a bit at a time, I think that will get better but from what I have read and my own experience so far (I am 6 weeks plus 3 days out) some days I can eat abit more but then other times I cant fit more than a couple bites in at a time. Yesterday while on a road trip (we are in Park City Utah visiting my hubbies daughter right now) we stopped at McDs for a quick lunch and I had the grilled chix salad with ranch dressing...it took me over an hour to eat it all but I did while my husband drove on. Then at supper that night I could only manage a few bites of salad and a few bites of baked potato and was stuffed. This morning at the hotel I got an egg and most of a well toasted slice of multi grain bread down...go figure? This is a very individual surgery and everyone responds differently. The most important part of the healing happens within the first 4 weeks, that is why Dr R says you can eat any type of food after that, that your body will let you that is. Some things do not sit comfy at certain times. I find morning and noon I can eat meat easier than at supper at this point. The biggest thing that is hard for me is wasting food when I cant finish it, ie ordering a salad and baked potato last night and not even eating half of any of it. Some things you can take home for left overs but it isnt so easy when you are in a hotel. Anyway, thanks for writing me, I hope I helped a little bit in reassuring you that things will change, for the better. Hang in there and keep in touch. Debra

Hi Donna - How are you? Thank you for writing me and most especially for the compliment. Dr. Peraglie actually started the MGB out here in Houston which is where I had my surgery, but had moved the procedure to Florida as I do not think it was getting the attention and response it deserved by Houstonians. I will be happy to be one of your contacts I will send you my letter via personal email.

Hey Donna, Thanks for the encouragement. Let me give you abit of history...my younger sister had her MGB on Dec 10, 2008 (little over one month ago) and my husband and I were her support team in Las Vegas. We sat thru her clinic the day before her surgery and we were impressed and amazed at what we saw. Then seeing her thru her surgery and the days after were also amazing...she has lost over 30 pounds since surgery and is doing SO much better health-wise. I came home to Arizona after that experience and after the holidays I buckled down and read and re-read the manual (we got a couple from Sandy B when we were there with my sis). I joined the web site on Dec 29 and started getting my contacts then...I printed out my patient info and sent it in and called my doctor for an appt, which I got in right away and she was really supportive of the surgery and she got her part done in one day. I spent atleast 2 - 3 hours on each of the four major parts of the manual, the Patient Info letter, the Patient Letter, the Contacts Form and the Consent Form (at then end of the manual), carefully printing them out after input. There is the added benefit that I am retired and could spend the time needed fairly easily but dont get me wrong, it is alot of work but it will be worth it. So, if all goes well and I get approved for Feb 11th, it will be about a month and a half from the date I began my journey to the date I begin my new life. I got a lot of help from the others on this blog site, they are a great bunch of folks. Good Luck on your own journey. Deb
