Hello,

This is very exciting, and a little emotional knowing that I will have my life back soon (at least I hope). I am a Registered Nurse in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit. I have been obese most of my life (almost 38 years old) and I want to live again...learn how to surf, get my dive license, get my pilots license. I have such an adventurous spirit that it almost kills me knowing how my weight controls my life and ambitions currently. I am ready for this MGB journey and have read posts for countless hours, watched you tube testimonials all with the excitement knowing this may be me one day. Please, if you have the time to respond to my questions, and allow me add you to my contact list, I greatly appreciate it. I understand Dr. Rutledge is the greatest, however, I live on the East Coast (VA) and would probably rather go to Florida because my 8 year old daughter will be traveling with me and she could visit Disney World for the first time. My questions are as follows:

1. Which surgeon did you have?
2. How was your overall experience with this process?
3. How was your overall experience with the staff?
4. How soon did you get your date once the packet was submitted?
5. Was your primary care provider supportive with your decision? If not, did you have an difficulty with the referral?
6. Did you have much post-operative pain? If so, what relieved it?
7. Did you feel any of the hunger you experienced prior to surgery?
8. Did you feel a loss for food?
9. Did you experience depression? Did you have a history of depression prior to surgery?
10. How soon did you go back to work? Did your work require physical activity (pulling/pushing)?
11. Would you choose to have this procedure again? If not, why?
12. What suggestions or tips could you offer for those who will travel out of state?
13. Which hotels would you suggest?
14. Is there anything else you would like to add or comment on?

Sincerely,

Julie Bangs

Hi Karla - Good to have you as a friend. This is the best thing that you will ever do for yourself (other than marrying and having your daughter, of course). I'm so excited for you. Keep me updated on your progress!!

Hi Karla, it's nice to meet you!!! Oh and I am scared too, I've been gung ho all along but this past week it's like, what if the plane goes down, what if I can't take my pills on only a sip of water, I need a full glass now to get the handful down, is it the right thing to do, spend this kind of money when we don't know what is around the corner. So probably with this extra time on our hands we start thinking this way. But my faith in God tells me that this thing has gone pretty smoothly for me, that everything keeps working out and at one point I was so fed up with my life and the choices that were available to me as I grew up that I asked God for a do over, and THIS is that chance. I knew He loved me when he sent me 2 granddaughters, I had 2 sons, so having some little girls to finally hold was great! So, I just need to remind myself this is my chance to live the rest of my life being slim for the first time, to spend it traveling to see my grandson in CA, and taking the girls on "history lesson" trips around the US, as soon as I get the loans paid off that is. So I'm looking forward to seeing you next week! Cindy

I only had the issue with bread that one time. I have learned that white bread goes down much easier and if I do eat whole grain bread, I have to have half a slice and make sure I toast it first. For some reason, toasting it helps get rid of the moisture that seems to make it expand in my stomach.

About Me:
Ok, here I go...I am a 45 yr. old woman, mother of 2 daughters. I train and show horses, and am tired of being too heavy to enjoy my very busy ful life. I am a therapist, and a horse woman, among many other things, and I am married to a very sweet man who loves me very much. I live on a ranch in Montana. I am so impressed by everyone on this board and how their lives have changed. I need my life to change, I don't think I am supposed to live my life out like this, miserable and hurting. I lost my first daughter when she was 7, and I have had enough pain in my life. I am really tired of hurting inside and out. My youngest child is crazy and loves life, I wan to LIVE it with her, not just stand by and watch her grow up. I think it is time for me to be happy.

Well, it's done, one week out.

Hello everyone! For those I h ave not written to, I had my surgery last wednesday, March 18, and I am back to work and feeling pretty good. I am getting over the thrush, which was a bitch, but it is getting better slowly. Could use some suggestions on what you all ate and drank your first 2 weeks, and what worked for you. I am having trouble telling how much to eat, as it doesn't hurt anymore, is it just more a feeling of uncomfortableness that tells you to stop? I am scared to eat too much, all… Continue

I am thinking kind of weird things like, "Do I need a will?" or what should I do Just in Case?? Is that strange or did any of you go thru that?? It is kinda freaking me out becasue I… Continue

Contacts, friends, well wishers needed!

Hi, my name is Karla, I am beginning my packet, and need patient contacts. I welcome friends and well wishers and advice givers as well! I am curious to know if there are any folks out there that would NOT do this surgery again, given the chance? Are there any real good reasons NOT to have this surgery done?? If you have had it done, were you afraid of the surgery its self? Those are my beginning questions. Trying to get past that fear is my current challenge. My Mother had intestinal surgery th… Continue
