About Me:
Hi! I'm looking forward to joining the 4000 people that have forged ahead of me losing weight and becoming healthy. I'm a nurse so I've seen first hand what obesity can do to a person and come from a family where we were always on a diet. My Mom, brother, and sister were able to keep their weight off. My dad and never were even though we usually lost the most and were the most active.
I can't wait to become physically active again; bowling, hiking, bike riding, and rock hunting as well as fishing.
I can't wait to go shopping and buy off the rack!

Hi Deb

By the time you get this you'll have gotten through the scary part. I'm Kate. I'm still waiting to get through all the appts. and paperwork and hope to have my surgery done in April. I'm fortunate in that I moved to Las Vegas a little over a year ago. What part of Arizona do you live in?
I'm a Quality Nurse at Valley Hospital and I'm working on my MBA in Health Care Administration. My husband and I will celebrate our 30th anniversary this Aug., but as of yet, no grandchildren. We have two furry'… Continue

Hi Paula

You sound a lot like Tim and I. We will celebrate our 30th this Aug. We also have two grown children but no grandkids. I'm looking forward to that. I'm just starting out. I've been researching this procedure for nearly a year and I'm finally convinced and ready for the changes it will bring. I'm trying to convince Tim to try it too, but he said he's going to wait to see what I go through first.
I'll get to the pictures eventually; you have a beautiful family! Kate

The Sentara Group has many hospitals in the Tidewater area of Virginia. I believe there is Virginia Beach General that is at the beach. One of the nurses in the MICU/CCU I used to work with, came from the ICUs there. She absolutely loved the Sentara network of hospitals, but had to move to Richmond because her sister was dx with cancer, and needed someone to help her out with the children. I would have your friend look up the Sentara network of hospitals, from what I understand, they are a national chain, maybe even international.

Congrats on working for Magnet status, we have two hospitals in the area who have achieved that recognition. I work at the Veterans Administration hospital; there has been talk about it, mostly committees to form committees...you know what I mean! Beaurocratic BS! Anyways, I hope that all is well with you and you will be able to schedule your surgery soon. Keep in touch.

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope all is well with you. I must have been so frustrating for you, being so close to the surgery and then having to move. Hang in there Sister, you will get there. In the mean time, how are things going with your new job and state? They are cutting alot of the agency people at work, things are pretty scary surronding the economy right now. Thanks again Kate, for your post. Talk to you soon.

Hello,

This is very exciting, and a little emotional knowing that I will have my life back soon (at least I hope). I am a Registered Nurse in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit. I have been obese most of my life (almost 38 years old) and I want to live again...learn how to surf, get my dive license, get my pilots license. I have such an adventurous spirit that it almost kills me knowing how my weight controls my life and ambitions currently. I am ready for this MGB journey and have read posts for countless hours, watched you tube testimonials all with the excitement knowing this may be me one day. Please, if you have the time to respond to my questions, and allow me add you to my contact list, I greatly appreciate it. I understand Dr. Rutledge is the greatest, however, I live on the East Coast (VA) and would probably rather go to Florida because my 8 year old daughter will be traveling with me and she could visit Disney World for the first time. My questions are as follows:

1. Which surgeon did you have?
2. How was your overall experience with this process?
3. How was your overall experience with the staff?
4. How soon did you get your date once the packet was submitted?
5. Was your primary care provider supportive with your decision? If not, did you have an difficulty with the referral?
6. Did you have much post-operative pain? If so, what relieved it?
7. Did you feel any of the hunger you experienced prior to surgery?
8. Did you feel a loss for food?
9. Did you experience depression? Did you have a history of depression prior to surgery?
10. How soon did you go back to work? Did your work require physical activity (pulling/pushing)?
11. Would you choose to have this procedure again? If not, why?
12. What suggestions or tips could you offer for those who will travel out of state?
13. Which hotels would you suggest?
14. Is there anything else you would like to add or comment on?

Sincerely,

Julie Bangs

Hi Kate. Just checking in with you to see how you are doing. Did you finish your packet and send it in? I am almost three months out and down 53 lbs. I have so much more energy and can eat just about anything I want. I've dropped two sizes and already have more clothing choices. Let me know how you are doing.

Hi Kate. I'm so sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I had a horrible upper respitory infection and have been laid up in bed taking steriods so I can breathe. Do you still need my contact letter?

Hi Kate,
For coffee substitue, is many choices, Caflib, ovaltine, decaffienated tea, or hot coco without the milk.
Take care,

Hello Kate,
As I told Cheryl, giving up coffee, is such a small sacrifice, compared to the greater reward, of weight loss. I used to drink 1-2 cups a day. And hell I did not want to give up coffee, or alcohol either. Yes I still remeber the smell of coffee, etc. But my results from my MGB surgery, is the greater reward. I have different body chemistry, and I don't crave food like I used to. Food no longer controls me. I feel great and have a lot of energy. Still I have had some hiccups along the way, but really think about it. Is it something you can give up, for the rest of your life? Do more research, read Dr. P's journal articles. If you think it is something you can do, then go for it! If it is not, there are other ways to lose weight.
Good Luck and don't hesitate to contact me either.
Alison
