Kay, don't worry, it is going to be fine! Like Rose and Edie have said, it's slightly different for every person and there will be times when you stall for a few days and then it starts coming off again. I only lost 21 pounds the first month but it…

About Me:
I'm 43 years old and have fought the weight battle since at least middle school and I'm ready to stop.

I remember it being the end of the 7th grade and I wanted to lose weight over the summer so I wouldn't be fat in high school. Well I got down to 95 lbs.; however, I did it by basically not eating. I maintained that for roughly a year and then off we go again. Being overweight has affected my ability to get jobs that I applied for. Over the years I have stopped doing the things I love, such as riding bikes, swimming, long walks, motorcycling, basically anything. As I get older and my weight stays high, its gotten too difficult to be active.
Once I have the surgery, I look forward to being able to enjoy life and getting ride of my type 2 diabetes.

I also look forward to being able to eat small amounts and still feel full and satisfied.

Let the journey begin!!

Weight Loss

I am just over 3 weeks out from surgery and have lost only 17.7 pounds. I really thought I would have lost more by now. But on the other hand I stop and think that I would never have done this before the surgery.

Does it seem like the weight is coming off slow to anyone but me? I work and try to walk 1 to 2 miles 2 to 3 time sa week. Any comments?

Black Tongue

I can't remember but does the Pepto cause black tongue and if I'm taking pills instead of eating yogurt at 3 weeks out can I stop the Pepto?

Any advise before I bug Dr. P?

Thanks Kay Martin

Surgery is over

I had my surger on April 16th in Florida. I can't say enough good things about Dr. P and the hospital staff. I was 277.7 at the time of surgery and have lost 16.9lbs. to date. I can't believe it. The surgery went fine. I just had a little problem with gas in my back. Once night I got my husband to rub my back and it was like burping a baby. I felt much better after that. My husband and I even went to Sea World one day. Boy was I tired that day.

I am already walking anywhere from 1 to 2 miles a… Continue

Hey Kay! Glad to hear that you are doing so well! To answer your questions, I am able to go walking for a while, but usually when I get home from work I feel sooooo tired! So, I don't get in all of the exercise that I should.....YET.....I'm hoping that my energy level will get better.
I can pretty much tolerate all foods, except one time I tried a little salad that my husband made which was glistening with oil & vinegar and spices, which caused me to dump a little.
I am still drinking my G2, and I have not tried to just drink plain water yet. What does it do to you?
Yes, I am taking all of my pills, and I even found a Chewable Glutamine from GNC that I can tolerate. I'm probably not taking enough of the fish oil & flax seed oil, but I try. So far, I am down 19 1/2 lbs, which is a little slower than most. I guess I just have to be patient!

I always thought if I had a child I would name him Ezekiel. :-) Never did though. Thanks for your kind words. Puppy fostering is very rewarding!

I had to order them from amazon.com...and truly they are delicious...it's like eating chocolate and toffe caramel (2 flavors in every box). I couldnt find the chews at my local stores....

Hi Kay
I tried those shakes....not very yummy but I have to do something to get more protein in---when I just read your post it reminded me to try them again. I have not started the creatine or glut stuff. I am on flintstone vits...trying 1 actigall/day (it gets caught and then I gag for 30 minutes), citrucel chocolate chews, prilosec, lots of pepto. I am eating tums for now for Calcium as I am still on Vit D 50,000 units per week and tums are so easy for me (versus citrucal w/D).

I am glad I am not the only one with that reaction to hot/warm liquids...most people said it soothed them...haha...not us. Yes the gurgles are so loud with it you could record it! Cool liquids= quiet.

How is your hunger? Any cravings? Are you back to work?
Feel any different yet...less bloat? How often do you weigh.....I am not doing it again until may 17th (1 month mark) .
Gosh you are a go- getter-jazzercize??--GO GIRL! I couldnt bounce up and down just yet....my belly is still sore.

Hi Kay
I am still trying to figure out this site and responding to posts or where they are!

I do eat little bits of solids and have been for a week--mainly little bites of mushed chk salad or tuna salad, a wet scrambled egg (half is all I can eat). I nibbled on some turkey breast pieces here and there. Still I am mainly on soup, yogurt, some crackers, adding some fruit other than watermelon now. I am glad you tolerated the mexican, that is awesome.

A couple days ago I had cream of chk soup and some crackers and wasnt paying attention and think I ate too much or something...not sure...but I had belly pain for hours, major gas bloat in my abdomen, and was in the bathroom for hours on/off.....since then I have some sharp pain when food is in my stomach and moving through...then it passes after 20 minutes. I am a little scared now....so I have stepped back and eat even less than before. Hot/warm liquids give me instant gas, burps, hiccups....cool things work best for me. I am going to wait a little longer to see if my stomach feels better after the other day. I may go to see Dr P at a month just for peace of mind...we'll see. I am a bit of a worry wart and keep feeling that I will be the one to have a leak after 14 days ... I dont know where I get this worry manner from.

I dont drink much G2 anymore but do those elete electrolyte drops to water. I have juices like V8 fusion which is fruit/veggie...I cant stand V8.

How are you doing with walking/ex?

Well sure, thanks. I dont know how far fayetteville is from woodstock, worst case maybe we could meet half way. By then we should be able to eat more normally. Till then, lets lose lose lose! Kim

Pretty much all of us have felt the same way you do about pictures. Remember, everyone on this site has had weight problems and that is why we are all here - to support and encourage each other. We want to see your smiling face. When you lose the weight, we will celebrate the difference between the now and then pictures with you!

Congratulations on the April 16th date. I am so excited for you! I'm sorry your husband isn't being more supportive. I bet he'll come around. Tell him that after the first couple of months, you'll be able to cook and eat pretty much everything you cooked and ate before. You will just be eating a lot less and the types of foods you focus on (protein, veggies, fruits) will be more healthy. Ultimately, the foods will be healthier for him too. It may be less about your weight, etc and more about him not wanting any change. Generally speaking, people tend to resist change. Just reassure him that you will be the same person, only MUCH happier and healthier! Good luck! Let me know if I can help in any way!
PS - We need a picture of your smiling face!

Hi Kay. Do you have a surgery date yet? I am almost three months out and down 53 lbs. I have so much more energy and can eat just about anything I want. I figure I eat and am totally satisfied with 1/4 to 1/3 of what I use to eat. Isn't that amazing? Let me know how you are doing.

I just saw your request for my contact letter. But looks like you've got it done already. I sent you my letter today and hope we talk someday soon. Good luck and congrats on getting your application done.
