Hey Kristina, I just read your post. I think the liquid stage was the most difficult for me too. Soft food really agree with me though-still now at almost 5 months out I can eat more mashed potatoes and black beans than anything else. I don't really…

About Me:
I am turning 30 this year and have made the decision to proceed with WLS so that I can LIVE my 30's differently then I did my 20's. Along with my parents I have done a ton of research on different types of WLS and made the exciting decision to proceed with MGB. I am at the begining stages of the paperwork and am looking for advise and support.

I Month and a few days!

Hello fellow MGB'ers,
I am a little over a month out from surgery - I have lost 20 pounds and I feel great!
Since I am so horrible at blogging... I am going to try and fit my whole first month in this posting.
Week One: It was rough but I expected it - I was sore - My stomach was bruised and I was uncomfortable sleeping. The staples itched like crazy. I was bored with salt and G2... But, I knew that was how I was supposed to feel, so I wasn't worried. I did a lot of walking, sipping, and burping… Continue

On My Way

Hi All,
Thanks for all the support!
I am 3 1/2 days out from my surgery. I feel pretty great. My mom is with me and we have been doing "something" each day... some shopping (i kept daydreaming about the clothes i would soon fit onto and be able to buy!) We spent hours yesterday at the Bok Sanctuary, We spent the day at Celebration today - So, I really can't complain. actually I can complain a little, I'm already over the liquid diet - 10 more days... 10 more days.
I didn't have any littermates s… Continue

Hi Kristina,
Way to go! Your doing great Kristina - keep it up. The social issues at work sound difficult but you seem to be finding your way.

Hi Kristina
I understand what you mean about believing our weight loss is for real and long lasting! I have also done the diet and exercise route and lost big time since 1999 only to have regained most of the weight I lost.... This time is for keeps! Like Kelty-Lee, I hope that sharing my experiences here is helpful to others. I live in the MGB Closet and in my public life at work and in the community, I do not talk about my WLS surgery... I knew before having MGB that most people had a negative and un-informed knowledge of obesity and WLS.
Just remember, it is a day at a time, and it is a new world out there waiting for you.
Oh, I recall you also said you were bored with gatorade.... maybe I am bad or just a rebel.... but after the first sip at the hospital (and I had tried gatorade preop), I never drank it again! I drink water and green tea only.
Take Care

Thanks for the compliments Kristina!!! Sharing this journey is very rewarding for me. Although I don't tell many people in the real world about my surgery, knowing that what I have gone through (and continue to experience) during this process and having a place to share ideas, and experiences makes it somehow easier... don't know if that makes sense... lol. I can hardly believe I am 8 months out... that to me is amazing. I used to think when I was in our shoes that 8 months was so far away. The time flys girl.... soon one month and 20ish punds will be 6 months and 80ish pounds... you wait and see. Keep it up and keep posting your experiences along the way too. They are great to read when you are 8 months down the road and they just may help another newbie get a picture of what life is going to be like for them.

take care!!! Kelty-Lee

Congratulations Kristina!
It sounds as if your surgery went well. That is wonderful! How are you doing one month out? I am scheduled for March 25th. I have also been dreaming about future clothes shopping trips. I have not bought any new clothes in over 18months - I don't want to invest in size 22 anything, anymore. Keep hydrated!
Take Care,

Congrats Kristina. I'm so happy that you're on the other side now. And you're walking and going out-that's a really good thing. 8 more days on liquids and then life will be all the more sweeter!

Don't be nervous, really. I was the one who had the most difficult time, and as you can see, even though I had to go back to the hospital, it wasn't the end of the world. I wish you the very best for your surgery. Let me know how it all goes.

Thanks Kristi! I was confused about the vitamins too-I looked over the post-op instruction and just went to walmart and bought them. I know that we are supposed to take 3 times the recommended dosage in order to make sure we absorb them-which can be 6 pills! So as it stands I'm taking about 7 pills three times a day. I noticed when I started doing this my bowel movements became really hard to pass (gross I know); so I don't always take them all. I am off of pop completely-although I sneak sips behind my boyfriend's back sometimes, I can't help myself. But I must say that it doesn't taste the same to me, nor is it as satisfying as I remember it to be. I don't drink the protein drinks because they gross me out. But sometimes I have protien smoothies with protein powder and fruit that aren't too bad. But like Teresa said, don't bring too much with you as you won't be able to get it all down. I didn't even get any yougurt down until the second week.

I hope we get to meet before your surgery! I should be going back on the 4th to get my staples out. Will be nice to put a face to the conversations, won't it? I went to Walmart and bought several individual bottles of G-2 in different flavors, a bag of Goldfish crackers, regular saltine crackers, chicken noodle soup and will buy my yogurt closer to surgery time. My sister is one of the prep nurses and had the surgery 2 years ago. She said DO NOT buy a lot of one thing because your taste changes dramatically and you may not like certain flavors. They have a new Walmart and Publix close by to pick up stuff we might need. I've heard my sister and several of the ladies on this site mention they liked the G2 better than regular Gatorade. While you're in the hospital, they will serve you reg. Gatorade, so you may want to bring other flavors of G2 with you in case Gatorade is hard to get down. I'm really excited at this point and just counting down the time! Talk to you more later....Teresa

Hi Kristina, I was just checking to see how you were doing with your packet and how things are coming along? I just passed my 1 month mark and have lost 19.2 pounds (yes, the .2 is very important haha).
