Going Well!

I can't believe it is almost 4 months since the surgery! I am doing very well and am down 67 pounds so far. I pretty much eat what I want, but just in very small portions. I also walk 3-4 times a week for 45 minutes. It has been an interesting journey so far! Check out my blog at

Happy Mother's Day!

This is my 23rd year being a mom and I wouldn't change it for the world. I love my two daughters with all of my heart, they make me happy and I am so very proud of who they have become. They are beautiful young ladies who will make wonderful mothers themselves one day. It seems as if it were just yesterday when we got pregnant. We were so happy that we were going to have children. I can remember so many great times and happy moments.... from crawling, sitting, standing, first words, first days a… Continue

Wow, I went in to pt yesterday for core strengthening and was ambulatory, I walked out a cripple! She tried me on the big ball...had me lay over it and roll back and forth on it a couple of times. Before I knew it, I couldn't get up, couldn't walk or put any pressure on my right leg...the pain was intense...tears came to my eyes....she had me lay on the bed and iced it, but it hasn't helped. I didn't sleep at all last night from the pain, iced it on and off. I am laying her now in pretty bad pai… Continue

Pomegranate Creamsicle Protein Ice Cream-yummm!

I decided that after eating my left over cobb salad from Cheesecake Factory and a few bites of Lew's chinese food that I wanted something cool and refreshing. SO, I thought to myself-go make some protein ice cream....I remembered that I had a packet of Jay Robb creamsicle protein powder which I mixed with a scoop of vanilla powder, 3/4 of a pomegranate ice pop and 1 tablespoon of sf vanilla syrup with one cup of one percent milk. VOILA!!! a perfectly refreshing pomegranate creamsicle protein ice… Continue

HI Lisa,
I am down 100lbs I hit a low of 161 but rebounded back up to 166..I have been doing that for about 2 months now. I am using the New Whey protein vials from vitamin world. They have their own brand that costs about $3 cheaper for 12 and have a few extra grams of protein in them. All of the powders I have tried make me sick so I am sticking with those even though they are a little on the pricey side..I don't use them everyday especially if I have steak or something with a lot of meat during the day. I will skip a day now and then so they last about 3 weeks. I am satisfied with the weight loss I have now so if I don't lose anymore I am fine.
I want to do a one year update but have been so busy and I am not sure I have very much to say which is a blessing, no news is good news ! my blood work was good. I was having Charlie horses in the morning so I started to take extra magnesium and they seem a little better. I wrote to doc P and he said everything looks good keep on going like I am...so for now it is good...

I know you must be so mad about this.

Well, the thing is that different exercises are tolerated differently by all patients. It depends on the severity and on how strong/weak, inflexible/flexible, chronic/acute a patient is when they come to us. Most times chronic back pain patients are so very weak and tight when they start that it takes a couple of months to get them rehabilitated and strong.

Everyday we try what we think will work on a particular patient based on the initial evaluation, but not everyone reacts the same way. I still get shocked when someone is doing 'fine', some chronic back pain, lays down on a table for 15 min and then cannot get up.....it almost doesn't make sense.

But when a patient has a somewhat unstable back , meaning that a couple of adjacent joints/vertebrae move too easily out of position because of arthritis or disc problems, it just doesnt take much to get stuck until the back is strong.

So, we try a new exercise gently and see how they do. Most times we are right because if we try it and there is immediate pain on the first few repititions-we stop. Anyway, none of this helps you now I know. Truly though, most times what you are going through can be fixed back to how you were before.

I do think you need someone to relieve pressure off that nerve that is aggravated...it may be light traction, or a gentle technique to the joint to relieve the nerve pinch. The sooner the better. That is why I recommend a certified manual therapist for you because it seems you have a chronic issue that needs advanced techniques. Whatever you decide, just do something soon as that nerve is not happy being under pressure. I wish I could help you but I am in GA.

But if I can help you I will, even if it is just as a resource or a sounding board! kim

How nice you look, Lisa! Your site is cool. I love those jelly beans..lol Wondering if you went back to work right after surgery. I teach Character Ed and am worried about the gas problem...personal gas, that is.
Although, you know how kids are...they never think the teacher did it!! Do you have something you use for the odor? Let me know...I want to be prepared....also, a little personal, but do you wear any protection from the agent orange? Thanks, dusty

Hey Lisa, my 3 month blood work showed I was vit D deficient. So my doctor suggested I take 2 Vitamin D 1000 IU a day. It seems to be helping because my recent blood worked showed a raise in my vit D. Hope this helps!
