Teresa, I would say some of that is probably head hunger too. You will go thru phases where something sounds good and when you get where you can have it it feels disappointing. I kept seeing double cheese burger commercials from dairy queen. I fin...

Profile Information

Hometown:
Beckley, West Virginia
First Name:
Teresa
About Me:
I am 49 and have been happily married to my high school sweetheart for 31 years. I have 4 sisters and 3 brothers. All of us have had severe weight and health problems. My mother died at age 53 from a stroke. She was a very tiny petite lady, but she smoked a lot. My father died at age 59 from an aortic aneurism. My sister Doris died at age 51. My oldest sister is paralyzed on her left side from a stroke (she smokes even to this day!). The next sister has had several heart attacks. I have 3 brothers who all have heart disease and/or have type 2 diabetes. My sister Barbara had all of the above until Dr. Peraglie did her MGB surgery 2 years ago. Today she is doing great and off all meds. She has lost 140 pounds and is down to 135lbs. She is now one of Dr. P's prep nurses in same day surgery at Heart of Florida and she will be my prep nurse too, so I will have an "angel" watching over me.

I used to be very petite like my Mom until I turned 30. I too smoked till I turned 30. I quit smoking and put 50 lbs on real quick. Then each year thereafter, I continued to gain and lose and gain, always dieting and working out like crazy! Now I'm pre-diabetic and have all the co-morbidity problems my whole family has. I am the youngest daughter of 8 children and do not plan to go through what my older siblings have gone through and/or died from. I plan to go into mid-life feeling and looking great!

Had staples removed yesterday and met Kristina

Saw Dr. P yesterday for my post-op visit and to remove my staples. I lost 8 lbs!!! My littermate, Jackie from South Carolina, lost 14 lbs and she said she went to the super bowl in Tampa and shopped most of the time! It's amazing how different people can be. I felt exhausted and weak until my 5th day and Jackie was out partying every day and did I mention she is at least 15 years older??? She looked great and I'm very happy for her.

Another exciting thing, I got to meet Kristina Robertson and h… Continue

On the other side..yipee!

I can't hardly believe it, I had surgery Thursday and came home yesterday. I wasn't nervous at all going in early Thursday morning. My sister was one of my prep nurses, therefore I got the star treatment from the other nurses. I was just hoping I wouldn't embarrass her in any way. They helped me to feel at ease cause they said they've seen it all.

I woke up with terrible nausea, which is what I was afraid of, but they gave me the great cocktail and took care of that at least until I got home. I… Continue

It really is true...I'm having MGB surgery on Thursday, January 29th

The hospital finally called me today and told me I'm scheduled for surgery on Thursday...hip hip hurray!!!! Talk about close....I mean I'm supposed to arrive tomorrow for my preop meeting with Dr. P and any preop tests. Did ya'll hear my sigh of relief......whew!

I'm first on the schedule, so have to be at the hospital at 5:30 on Thursday. Might as well stay up tomorrow night, I'm sure I won't get any sleep anyway. No wonder you all were exhausted afterward!! It's because you were stressed out… Continue

Can't sleep...getting pretty anxious....

Thanks so much Steph, Edie, Rose, Paula and K-L, you guys have made me feel so much better! All of you are such great friends to people you haven't even met! I'm so grateful to have "met" all of you and I would love to someday really meet all of you in person! I was talking to my sister (had MGB) about this site and how funny, wonderful and supportive you all are to all of us newbies. I don't know if this site was up and working 2 years ago, but she wasn't aware of it when she had her surgery. S… Continue

Still waiting for approval...maybe today is my lucky day...

I've been signing in every day and reading and commenting on various topics but haven't left a blog in a while. I'm waiting for approval from Flo at Dr. P's office. I know they have been very busy. I personally think there has been so many satisfied MGBers that upon their recommendations, Dr. Peraglie and Dr. Rutledge are busy little bees!! I'm scheduled for surgery next Thursday, Jan. 29th. Boy! I'm ready...I think?! Just need that approval...

I have to be honest. I don't fear the surgery or a… Continue

Hey Teresa. How RU doing? I am worried about being hungry all the time. But I eat small amts. Flab is starting to really hang from my arms. Don't get me wrong...I am very happy 3 months out and 41 pounds down. Yippee!! Losing wt has been soooooo easy, but now the hunger thing >????????@@!!!!! I do not want to be hungry. The fear is there about 'gaining' I suppose. I bought a 3 wheeler and haven't even used it much.....also, I am tired. Wonder if being 64 is part of the problem. Wishing I had done the MGB much sooner!!! Well, didn't have the $$$ then.
I am going thru the clothes now. I don't want to keep ordering stuff, but the sizes are going down enuf to intrigue me to buy smaller. Yikes, I am getting too worried about stupid stuff. Maybe I just need the work routine. And I had been looking forward to my summer off from teaching. Now I want to go back!! I wanted to know if you would be at the MGBU2 on July 24th and 25th. I have all these clothes to bring up there too...also thought maybe my hubby and I could visit Universal studios and Cypress Gdns. Let me know if you are going, ok?? dusty

Hello,

This is very exciting, and a little emotional knowing that I will have my life back soon (at least I hope). I am a Registered Nurse in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit. I have been obese most of my life (almost 38 years old) and I want to live again...learn how to surf, get my dive license, get my pilots license. I have such an adventurous spirit that it almost kills me knowing how my weight controls my life and ambitions currently. I am ready for this MGB journey and have read posts for countless hours, watched you tube testimonials all with the excitement knowing this may be me one day. Please, if you have the time to respond to my questions, and allow me add you to my contact list, I greatly appreciate it. I understand Dr. Rutledge is the greatest, however, I live on the East Coast (VA) and would probably rather go to Florida because my 8 year old daughter will be traveling with me and she could visit Disney World for the first time. My questions are as follows:

1. Which surgeon did you have?
2. How was your overall experience with this process?
3. How was your overall experience with the staff?
4. How soon did you get your date once the packet was submitted?
5. Was your primary care provider supportive with your decision? If not, did you have an difficulty with the referral?
6. Did you have much post-operative pain? If so, what relieved it?
7. Did you feel any of the hunger you experienced prior to surgery?
8. Did you feel a loss for food?
9. Did you experience depression? Did you have a history of depression prior to surgery?
10. How soon did you go back to work? Did your work require physical activity (pulling/pushing)?
11. Would you choose to have this procedure again? If not, why?
12. What suggestions or tips could you offer for those who will travel out of state?
13. Which hotels would you suggest?
14. Is there anything else you would like to add or comment on?

Sincerely,

Julie Bangs

Hi Teresa,
I think of you often and wonder how you are doing? I am down about 20 lbs in the first month - I'll take it! I have been feeling well, a few ups and downs as I get used to this. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice - but I think I will only be able to tell when I am 1-2 years out how the rest of my life will look going forward! I would love to hear an update on how you are doing.
Thinking of you,
Kristina
