About Me:
Hi friends,

I'm a happily married woman with two adult children, our son Dan who has been married to Alicia for 5 years and our daughter Heather who lives in Norwich England.

As with most of you, I have struggled all my adult life with being overweight and have tried so many weight loss programs that I have lost track of them all. I have been able to lose as much as 90 pounds on Weight Watchers, but as soon as I would go slightly off program, the weight would all come back, compounded by a more weight.
After suffering a major car accident, I have severe damage to my pelvis and right knee and I'm now at a point where I require a hip and knee replacement but the surgeon won't proceed until I lose at least 60-80 pounds. I also had high blood pressure and had lost the ability to do so many of the things I used to enjoy like walking, dancing and going to antique shows.
I started to look at various weight loss surgery after talking to a friend who was scheduled to have a MGB and quickly realized that of all the available types of surgery, the MGB had the lowest risk and the added advantage of an exit plan to revise or reverse the surgery if needed. This, along with my friend's success, gave me the confidence to begin the process of applying for the MGB and the rest, as they say, is history.

I had my MGB in Henderson NV on September 24, 2008 with Dr Rutledge. The procedure took 42 minutes and Dr R bypassed 7 feet of intestine. The recovery period in NV was pretty easy, just some nausea and one scary episode of a stuck pill from the swelling but all in all, not too bad.

I'm now at the 4.5 week point and have lost a total of 22 pounds. My weight is coming off slowly but steadily and I'm feeling good. Thanks to Dr R and the MGB, I feel like I'm slowly getting my life back. My blood pressure is almost back to normal with no medication and I don't take the pain meds and muscle relaxants that I used to take every day.

Thanks Dr R!!!

Thank you Trish, I got your letter and I appreciate encouragement. As I get closer to my own surgery I find myself hating the far. I feel so big and awkward now that I see an end in sight. If anything falls through I will be crushed. Wendy

Trish, Your photos are so impressive. I haven't had the surgery yet and am worried about getting my hopes too high. It seems too good to be true, I still need contacts if you'd be willing. Thanks, Wendy pvtworld@mtaonline.net

Wow, Trish, you look great in your photos. Was it a struggle or did it go quickly. I am worried about lack of energy and whether or not to take extra time off work. I'm gathering in comments for the application. Would you e-mail me? I would need dates and before and after weights, that sort of thing. Thanks, Wendy

Hi Trish. I would like that chart you speak about on one of your comments. I am going to Orlando on 10/29/09 and like everyone else, getting a bit fearful. But, I 'M IN for the long haul! I just picture myself healthy and happy and ready for what ever G-d has in store for me. I can't wait. If I could, I would do it sooner....almost finished my packet and will try to make it sooner!!! YIPEEEE.

Hey Trish - Thanks for asking! Blood work is fine, and I'm feeling fine. A little rebound would be OK, maybe to 155, but I'm liking being skinny for now. :)

No foster puppies lately, have been fostering Hershey and training him. Hopefully the perfect home will come along for him soon. I miss the little fuzzballs!

Fortunately my adopters are great about sending me updates and photos, so I was thinking of posting some of those in the near future, but it will be a while as I'm busy getting ready for a trip to FL for a Nussentials "family reunion" next week. Got some stunning new clothes and can't wait to show them off!

Thanks for thinking of me! How are you doing?

Trish,
I'm not exactly what I meant about the "card". I was working on my letters for so long one night that I must have been very tired and seeing double. Just laugh with me and not at me HE HE-HE HE
I did get your letter. I will look again to make sure. Sorry. Lisa

101 pounds!!!!!

WOW! To-day was a red letter day for me as I reached the 101 pound weight loss mark at 8 1/2 months post surgery! I was anticipating reaching 100 as I prepared to step on the scale and nearly fell over when the second number was a 6, not a 7. My pre-surgery weight was 270 and this morning I weighed in at 169, WOOOHOOO!

Life is so different now as I enjoy getting out into my garden, planting and weeding without having to bend over my protruding tummy to get to the dirt, lol. I can quickly walk u… Continue

WOOOOHOOOO, "Onderland" at last !!!!!!!!!!

Yaaaay, I'm so happy to report that I have made it to "Onderland"! What a great feeling to see that little "1" at the beginning of the reading on my scale. it's been over 20 years since I have seen those numbers and I can't believe that it has only been 5 months since my surgery! Wednesday is my 5 month anniversary and I have lost 71 pounds, weighing in at 198 to-day.

I get such a kick out of watching the expression on faces of people I haven't seen in a while and twice this last week I had the… Continue

4 Months out......How time flies!!

Wow, I can't believe it's almost the end of January! On January 24th, I celebrated my 4 month anniversary and I am closing in on "Onderland". I started at 270 and I'm now at 208, just 9 pounds to go and I'll be in the 100's for the first time in a VERRRRRY long time.

I find I have settled into a bit of a routine now and have a pretty good idea what foods agree with me and what doesn't. I still have trouble getting enough protein and I could use a little more variety in my meals, but it is so co… Continue

2 month update

Here I am, 8 weeks post-surgery. Every day, I am amazed by how well I feel and the fact that I don't have to take medication for blood pressure or pain any more.
I'm getting more used to how my body is affected by the foods that I eat and still trying new things. I can eat a pretty good sized portion of soup or salad and find that this makes ordering in a restaurant easier because it takes me a long time to eat these and I feel more comfortable sitting with others who are eating large meals (if… Continue

1 month and 2 days out and 20 pounds gone forever!!!

Wow, I can't believe how fast this last month has gone by! On September 24th I had my MGB in Henderson with Dr R and started a new chapter in my life.

This past month has had it's ups and down, a few scary moments and much success. I am down 20 pounds as of Thursday morning and although my weight loss is slow, I have to say that it has been pretty easy to take off this first 20 pounds. I'm hearing that a lot of people have issues with diarrhea, I'm having the opposite problem. After seeing Rose… Continue
