Hello, I am working on getting my packet done for surgery and was wondering if you would oblige being my first patient contact. As a requirement of the packet, I need to ask your name, date of surgery, pre op weight, weight now and any comments you have about the surgery. My name is Stephen Duhon and I am 20 years old and live in Atlanta, Georgia. I have type 2 diabetes and am looking at having the MGB. Please email me with any information at af420balla@aol.com Thank you so much

Tina,
Yep! Hiccups are one of the ways your body alerts you that you are full and should eat no more. A few times I have eaten beyond the hiccups and was sorry for it. Others say that they get runny noses or watery eyes. Some sneeze. My mom (lap-bander) sneezes more than me, but it is definitely her cue. I only occasionally sneeze, but I'm not convinced it has anything to do with fullness. So which will you be- a sneezer or a hiccuper??? hmmm... time will tell. Anyway, enjoy the ride... it's a fun one, isn't it?
Congrats on your loss so far! It'll start falling off soon. Hugs! Starr

I hear ya on the exercise. I think I found something today. My sister is doing the MS Challenge Walk (it's 2-3 days). It's the second weekend in September, and I'm thinking I may do it with her. I'll have to do lots of exercising in order to be able to do it, so I'm thinking that might help a lot. Good luck to both of us. :-)

Yes sore like someone punched me in the stomach. It hurt real bad when I leaned over to pick up something. That's all gone now so I feel great!

I'm getting really excited. I just hope the nerves don't come alive. I love all animals. I wished I had my horses back. I miss them dearly. I'm planning on surgery on June 15th with Dr.P . I can't wait. Good luck with your journey as well. Janet

Hi Tina - the chocolate powder actually tastes much much better. But they advertise it as a shake. I'm now putting two and two together and thinking that's why I'm having more gas than usual - a lot of air ends up in there. So I'm back to square one at finding fiber I can live with.

If they had big wrists I bet they measured that way too! 10 lbs is awesome! When was the last time you lost that in a week? ha ha I will only weigh every 2 weeks because it fluctuates too much for me to handle!!! I'm glad you're doing well. Did you get sore too? Today my stomach feels full and is painful a little.

Hi Tina: Thanks so much for keeping me informed--the next year will be quite an adventure for you as it was for me. At this point, sit back and enjoy the "ride", enjoy the experience--let your MGB do the work--but make the healthy choices in foods and exercize---as that is what will get you to your goal and keep you there in the years to come. HEALTH is what it is all about--because we have all experienced the unhealthy side of life. Good luck with your journey--and please don't hesitate to email me if you have any concerns or questions along the way!!

I'll be having my MGB May 17th. Can't wait. My weight has been a lifelong struggle, so I look forward to being normal long term. I think the mgb is an awesome tool for us, and although it's kind of surreal to actually believe this will work, I believe!

Have I Been Eating Enough?

My weight loss has been fairly slow so far. At 1 month out I was down 20 lbs. I know that's not bad, but it did seem a bit slow. So, three days ago I tried pizza. I ate one entire slice, although it took me a while. The next day I had a leftover slice for lunch. Generally speaking, I ate more than I usually do (post op). Today, I dropped 3 lbs. So, I'm wondering, is it the increased food consumption? The first thing I was told by MGB'rs was to listen to my body. I took that to mean that when I w… Continue

Hamburgers or cake?

Nine days out and I want a hamburger. This is odd for me, because I usually crave sweets. In addition to that, I'm not much of a meat eater. So, it seems I am craving protein. Cheese sounds good. And carb addict that I am, mashed potatoes wouldn't be too bad either...but I've got my broth, so I'm good. Although I sometimes think of these foods, it's not like before. It's not an overwhelming, have to have it or I'll go nuts kind of craving. It is manageable. Sort of like what 'normal' people must… Continue

Incontinence Resolved

Okay, so I debated all day as to whether I should post this or not. I decided to go ahead, in the hopes that somebody might be helped by it. I am 45 and have given birth to 3 children. For the past 19 years, I have suffered from incontinence. I use the word suffered quite accurately. Not only was I self conscious about my weight, but I had to worry about leakage or smells. Now, as unladylike as this topic is, I know there are many out there suffering. I was actually considering surgery, but like… Continue

2 days post op

Well, I've crossed over. Can't say I was in any real pain. Didn't use the morphine pump during my hospital stay.I had surgery at 9:30am and I was up walking by 4pm. Truly amazing. Yesterday I was a bit melancholy. I don't know if that's how you would describe it, I wasn't really sad, or blue. My daughter called me to see how things went, and I briefly told her and said I'd talk to her later. I just didn't feel like talking...I always felt like talking before. Today is better. The one odd thing I… Continue

Bogus Weight Loss Methods

So, as I sit here pondering what changes will take place for me, I glance at the Google ads on the right. Are they serious???? Ancient Chinese Weight Loss Secrets??? OMG, oh, don't let the physician assisted weight loss fool you either. Tried that one...real fun, 500 calories, protein supplements exclusively-no solid food. Did it work, well sure it did. I lost the weight, and my body was so starved that the weight came back with a vengance. I really think wls is the only way to go.
