Hi Patti,
I have a letter I can share with you, I am out 3.5 years and down about 165#'s. People who did not know me for most of my life do not believe I was well over 300#'s cuz we all know what they think of people like "that"! HA, I like to let them know how my life has changed, but never forget from whence you came, so I have a few friends who would benefit from the MGB for survival. Some take the suggestion to look it up as a slam, we all know that is not the intent, but people also have to be ready to hear before they have interest. Let me know what you want to know.

Thanks for your comment, Patti! I'm doing great! I've now lost almost 140 lbs and am actually trying to stop losing weight. LOL! I never dreamed I'd have this problem. My focus now is on getting in shape. Best of luck to you!

ok, so go to the clos website and get the manual first. READ IT!!! LOL and then you can have a discussion with your PCP about the MGB and RNY and let her make the decisson about the complication rates and outcomes. Give her the stats. IF she is still not on board, then be frank with her that you are not requesting her approval, just a commitment from her to agree to follow you after surgery for any complications. You have the right to choose what is best for you Patti. Women have the right to choose many things in this life. The type of surgery you have should also be your choice. (just sayin) And if she still gives you a hard time, call either Kim Hazen or Flo Ballengee (these ladies are the patient co-ordinators for Dr.R and Dr.P) and ask them if they know of any PCP's in your area who have helped patients with MGB before and also go on the Yahoo group and put out a post asking for people in your area to give you their Dr.'s name and see if they will take you on as a patient. Next step, go through the manual and the website and just start going down the 12 step list on what to do. Check off stuff as you get it done and you are on your way. Make sure to book a tentative surgery date tokeep you motivated to keep going forward! It is amazing what a deadlne can help you accomplish! Keep the faith and do what is right for you. RNY is not a bad surgery, but it has complications involved with it that your Dr. may not be aware of. MGB, is also not without risks. The lower risk surgery is the one that you and your PCP should be discussing. Also, give her the surgeon you choose to have do your MGB's phone number or call them yourself while you are in her office for her to talk to. That should make an impression that the surgeon is always available to help you understand what the MGB is and what you are in for. Good luck!!! and let me know what happens!!!
