Lana Margaret Schindler commented on Van's blog post 'Visted my PCP'

I am about 100 lbs overweight and am thinking of having this done, although the friends of mine that have had this done advise me against it. I have heard about leakage and the tightness like a rubberband. What else are the side effects. Lana

A bit about myself....

I am a 40 year old man who is 6 foot 4 and 385 pounds.

At 2 times in my life I lost over 100 pounds.
Phen Fen - lost it and gained it back after I stopped taking the meds.
I would have kept on taking them but they were taken of the market as
you all know.

Lap Band.
Procedure went great at first, lost 100 pounds total. Started at 410.
However after having some fluid taken out of the band I could never
get it back to where it was good again. It was too tight. I could
barely even drink water. I can get more fluid put in know but it has
stopped working. I have alot of pain when it is too tight. I also have
alot of reflux when it is tight.
I also did alot of exercise at first with the band. As soon as I
stopped I stopped loosing. Makes sense.

So, now I am ready for the MGB. Everything I have read sounds like a
good trade off for being smaller. I really enjoyed being able to run
around and do physical stuff when I lost 100 pounds before.

I'm 8 months out from surgery and am enjoying being over 100lbs down from my starting weight. You're a guy...so you'll probably see quicker results...but rest assured...your results will be better than the PhenFen/LapBand Days! So...YAY FOR YOU for making the decision to push forward & get healthy!!
When are you hoping to have surgery & with which surgeon??
