I was just saying to my husband that I am yet to find something that I can not do physically since my MGB. I love it! I was jogging a lot, (currently on a break for some sturctural issues, not serious, but some break time is good), playing baseball…

Update 6/09

OK folks it has been a few months,

I have just returned from a three week backpack trip through Chile, Something I could not have thought about two years ago. All went fine.

Chile has a lot of Mountains, so any walking is mostly up hill. I lost about twenty pounds on the trip. Which is good considering that I had gotten up to 240 again. Now back at 220 I think I have a better knowledge of how to keep it there. My only complaint on the whole trip is that my now boney ass hurts from the bus ride… Continue

update

I see it has once again been a while since I posted an update.
I am fine, my stomach is fine, over-all health is super.
After hitting a low of 220, I am now at 230. This may be from several things. The winter here was cold and I did not swim as much as I have been. Or I could just be eating too damn much. We will see if the pounds do not come off in the next month.

On the eating front. I supplement my protien with protien bars. They are sometimes very chewy. I found out how chewy when one of th… Continue

Update

Winter has come to the Keys.
And when it is cold in the Keys, it is cold everywhere. So much for Global Warming, I knew Gore was a crackpot.

I am down to 222 lbs now. Four pounds in the last month, slow but sure. My body is still shrinking though, XL tee shirts are now looking big. I took two more bags of fat clothes to S. Army this week. I need to start a new wardrobe, but hate to start that chore in the winter. The Boat Show Season is coming up and the economy is in the toilet, Maybe there wi… Continue

Update

OK, It has been fourteen months.
I have lost 145, or there about. And now weigh 226. But like many of you have found out, weight bounces a few pounds every day.

I pay out of pocket for everything, so Flo is working to find a cheaper source of blood tests. If cost means something to you, drop her a line.

For those of you readers, who are thinking of, or have not had surgery yet, you will never look at fat the same way again. And you will wonder why you took so long, to get here.

I have reached… Continue

Update

OK, OK. I know it is past due for an update.
It is nine months to the day since the surgery. I feel fine, I look fine, and I be fine. I weigh 242 lbs now and I started this process at 352 on surgery day. I have not been loosing much weight for the last two months, but the body sure has shrunk in that time. I did not take measurements so it is hard to judge just how much in inches that I am smaller. I used to wear three and four X shrits, and now a single X is baggy. There is plenty of loose skin… Continue

Call Al Gore, he knows where all the heat is.

Hi Rose, It is still hot down here and was supposed to set a record in KW today. No records here. But it was 81 this morning here in Marathon, it was cool because it had just stopped raining at 6 am. The sea water is a balmy 87 on the reef.
The record heat is supposed to bring on the "canes, but this year (which is not over yet) they seem to be non existent.
I am still waiting for those wind-less days that we should be having, for lobstering in the gulf. But I can't complain, I am keeping the fat off and even lost some more. I have been trying to teach myself the Dolphin kick with fins on, it really uses the whole body and you can go faster through the water using it.
The Keys are pretty dead, tourist wise. So we know the economy still sucks. There are NO signs of any improvement here.
Rose, I hope you don't need those longjohns much this winter, but from the rumblings I am hearing, this my be a very cold year in the wilds of Pennsylvania.

You won't believe this but I had to put on my long johns this morning I was so cold..LOL.thankfully it warmed up today in the sun, I am so afraid of the cold this winter. How's the weather holding out for you? Is it still warm?

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. None of us laugh as much as we should. I try to see the humor in everything, but mostly the absurd.

Toilet humor is easy and poignant because we all have to shit. Parents reward their kids for a good dump when they are small, but then at some certain age the parents want the kid to cover it's shit like a cat and not talk about it anymore. It is no wonder the the rest of the world think Americans are strange.
This surgery will teach you more about your own colon, than you could ever learn in med school.
I wish I had a quarter every time someone has given me a new diet or told me I need to exercize more. They can't grasp that my intestines are shorter than theirs now. And that whatever I eat does not digest fully. If you try to explane the nuances to them, their eyes glaze over.
This surgery is more learning experence than it is weight reduction. The weight will fall off, but you have to learn how to eat again.
If I had to, I would do it over and over again.

Allison, I have never fished up there. I had a fleet of clam boats on the east coast, and have fished all over. I even spent a few seasons in the Bearing sea and a couple more in Canada. I ran a couple of headboats but never got into charter fishing.

If I can answer anyone's burning questions, I will be glad to.

Hi Ed

Thanks for adding me as a friend. I requested it because I saw some of your comments and thought I need to be friends with someone who has such a great sence of humour. You can never laugh too much.

Thanks!

Ed I missed the part that said you were a commercial fisherman. I live in Niceville, Florida which is 10 miles north of Destin. Have you ever been up here fishing? I used to work at a Marina gassing up the charter boats and weighing fish. That was my summer college days job. I haven't been to the Keys in 18 years but my husband absolutely loves the Keys.

Talk to you soon,
Allison

Hi ed I hope you don't mind but I posted how funny you are on MGBhelp.com they reformated the site and lost all of the old posts and someone was saying they miss the potty stuff, I remember how I laughed out loud when reading your bathroom antics so I told them if they miss the potty stuff come here and read yours...I thought it was pretty good description... you need to take some time out of that grulling fishing and sunbathing and pst and update for us...I only have 9 days till my surgery...I am getting a little crazy....Rose

Hi Ed, i was talking with Rose and she told me that i sould check out your page cause your a hoot. Its awesome your a commercial fisherman. I have alot of respect for folks who can do that type of work. I would love to hear about it. i would also love to hear about your journey on the mgb. Any advise for another male who has made the decision to change his life for the better? also, have you heard anything about an outpatient surgery that cost less? Rose was telling me about it. Thanks, have a great day!

What is the "liver booster". I didn't mind the Xenical either except that one time at the beach where we where eating terrible (boardwalk fries, taffy, icecream) we where really taking advantage of those Xenical...we thought! I think it is an excellent drug because it has no side effects accept fot the obvious and that was my own fault.
that is alot of weight for 6 months. I only need to loose about 100. I weight 269 now and if I get to 160 I think I would jump over the moon..I am just scarred I won't be able to do the meds like I should afterward...
When I was studying the RNY a couple of years ago I didn't get it because my husband said "if you can't stay with a diet now what makes you think you can stay with it after you get this surgery" and you know how after you loose wieght you always tend to gain it back. it was true how was I going to do it..so now it sort of hold me hostage(fear)
