About Me:
I'm 55 and I've been overweight (seriously) for over 25 years. I'm booked for MGB August 29/08 and finally have received approval from OHIP. I have been studying all the info on line, I have given up coffee, alcohol and carbonated drinks and I am eating light. Kinda rehearsing for the change. I am also working out as many days a week as I can at Curves so I can be strong and ready.

I have a wonderful husband - we've been married for 35 years. He's loved me fat and not so fat. Two twenty something kids - we're empty nesters now but our kids aren't well settled yet.

I have a busy job as General Manager of my local Business Improvement Area (B. I. Districts in the US), love arts and crafts, live on a houseboat in the City and have a house at Wasaga Beach, the longest freshwater beach in the world. I'm a Pisces - what can I say? I'll figure out how to do the pictures soon. E.

Ellen, your packet is approved. See you soon! Flo

The best email ever! Now I can relax and really get ready. Time to pack and think about what to bring (not too much, I know). I have my meds already - but not my post-op ones. Should I fill those prescriptions already or wait til I get back? Thanks Flo and Dr. P. I'm so thrilled even though a friendly colleague told me today "I'm so sorry you feel you have to do that." We had a bit of a verbal sparring match but I'm old enough to know that there are some folks who's minds are closed. My husban… Continue

Waiting

Still waiting......this time for Dr. P's approval. I'm feeling really confident that I will be approved but there's still that doubt, that concern - is this going to really happen for me?

Pics added

I figured out how to create an album on the yahoo group. I did upload two pics here but had to wait for approval and I'm not sure where they are going to show up? Anyway, this is me, back from curves, no makeup, looking, shall we say it "fat". Doesn't bother me now since MGB is on the way. Edit = Holy Crow! There they are on my page in a huge format. Yikes! Did I say it doesn't bother me? I look miserable - note to self - next time smile at least.

Tests OK

I picked up my lab results and all looks okay. Now to finish this darn packet. Can anyone tell me if they sent in the contact form and patient letter electronically? I'm just a bit confused by this. E. Countdown - 17 days to departure 20 days to surgery

Hi Ellen,

Zumba is so much fun and a fabulous workout!! I go to a dance studio at Airport Rd. and Williams Parkway where my friend teaches - she is awesome. It is at Coffey's Dance Studio.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!!

Maybe - I rented it this year for the first time. Especially since I'll be in Florida for 10 days. Figured it could pay for itself.

Ohhhh, Wasaga Beach.... so jealous! The kids and hubby and I usually travel up to Sauble for our beach days... do you know anyone who rents out places near or on the water for a week in the summer? We were thinking about doing that for next summer. Let me know.... or for a long weekend... I live in the best place in the 519! LOL

Thanks for the comment. that picture was taken in 05. I had just lost down to 210 by walking 4 miles a day on the treadmill and doing atkins...I started gaining back probably at that point..I have my work shirt on I was a temp worker for the summer at the Reese peanutbutter cup plant in Hershey. I was putting my youngest through college..
My niece works for my cousins hair shop and she did it with foil. He poo-poo'ed the idea and said it would look like black shoe polish on my gray hair. We decided to do it anyway, I keep my hair pretty short so if it didn't look that great I could always cut it and it would have grown out in about 4-6 months. We think it turned out good though.
It seems like I always end up with the same short spiky hair style and I like to try different stuff especially color.

We rented a house while we were down there, it wasn't a timeshare. It was beautiful and had every convenience of home. They had a lot of different kinds of homes available, and since all 5 of us went it was the best option. If it is just you and hubby than a hotel room with a kitchenette would work well. We flew out of Buffalo as well... saved us $1500 easily. Rest up E... back to workin on your papers tomorrow! Hey think about it, when your done you can say you earned your MGB degree! LOL

I DEFFINATELY know what you mean! I was near fit to be tied when I thought I couldn't have it done!!! But more than likely things will all come together. It isn't so far away E! When do you travel? Do you have everything booked? Did you get cancellation insurance just incase?

Tell me about it! That patient letter was unbelieveable! I thought I was writing my thesis... hahaha! I know how you feel about being nervous, when I thought I had hyperparathyroidism that would deffinately make the surgery a no go... i nearly lost it. So much work to find out the day we were supposed to leave that I couldn't do it? Man alive i was happy that one worked out! But realisticly ( and maybe it is easier for me to say from this side of MGB) if for some reason something comes up that means you can't have the surgery.... it is more important to take care of your health and then reconsider MGB when the time is right. This is ELECTIVE surgery.... i had a hard time remembering that. It really clicked when I thought having the MGB could literally kill me. You really don't want that E.... no matter how defeated being overweight makes us feel, I don't think any of us would give up our life to be thin. I know at least I wouldn't have. I have so much more to live for... and I suspect you do to.
